DIVISION 3A (Ages 13 & Under)

Scots beat the Fury

On a beautiful spring morning, the Piedmont Scots outlasted the Alameda Fury 16-14 on Saturday, March 31. With the score tied heading into the bottom of the third inning, the Scots pushed across four runs to take the lead and another five in the 4th inning to put the game out of reach. Contributing to Piedmont's offensive barrage were Olivia Stutz, Zoe Renner, Kaitlyn Peake, Courtney King, and Lynn Zukerman. Stutz struck out 7 in four innings, with Renner pitching a solid inning in relief.

Tartans top Devils

The Piedmont Tartans kept up their undefeated streak, winning four in a row with a 9-6 victory over the Oakland Devils. Gabriella Yao-Cohen and Amy Haas dominated on the mound for Piedmont, striking out a total of 10 Oakland batters. Kelsey Hafferkamp and Katie White each had three hits, and Erin Mamuyac and Eliza Basset played outstanding defense for the Tartans.

Highlanders rally for tie

Last Wednesday, April 18, the Piedmont Highlanders rallied from an 8-4 deficit in the final inning to salvage an 8-8 tie with the Oakland Scorchers. Lindley Wren led off the fifth with a double and later came around to score. Mina Duffy singled and scored on Claire Douglass' clutch 2-out base hit. With Rachel Simkover in scoring position, Meghan Freeman came through with the big blow to knot the game at 8-8. Duffy was stellar on the mound, striking out all seven batters she faced. Douglas was sharp in her inning of relief with 3 Ks. Sarah Wong pitched 2 strong innings, mostly in a driving rain. Simkover and Duffy each collected 2 hits and Duffy scored 3 runs.

Pipers pop Highlanders

Pipers pop Highlanders In an all-Piedmont game on April 3, the Pipers used their batting skills to defeat the Highlanders, 11-6. Miranda White and Alexandra Foreman split the pitching duties, while Leah Hughes and Allison Shuster provided clutch offense for the Pipers. Shuster and White both turned double plays on defense, and catcher Joanne Fong made a great play and tagged out a runner stealing home in the second inning.

Scots edge out Pipers

In a close game last Tuesday, April 17, the Pipers fell to the Piedmont Scots 14-11. Allison Shuster slammed a single, stole 2nd and 3rd base, and scored a run for the Pipers in the first inning. Nina Ozier pounded an RBI triple in the second, and Carrie Bantz drove in two more runs with a single in the third inning. Leah Hughes made a great stop on a hard ground ball, and Miranda White played great defense for the Pipers.

DIVISION 2A (Ages 11 and Under)

Scots pop Hot Shots

Scots pop Hot Shots On March 24 the Piedmont Scots shut out the Hot Shots 9-0, taking a lead in the first inning and never looking back. The pitching team of Jaime Finkel and Caitlin Cox combined for 12 strike outs. Hitting safely each time at bat were Allison Dong, Jessica McKean, Caitlin Cox, Laura Cereghino and Julia Herringer.

Close win on March 30

In a much closer game, the Scots edged past the Tsunamis 2-1. Piedmont scored both its runs with a second-inning rally on hits by Olivia Anton, Jaime Finkel, Anjalie Aurora and Mika Siegelman. The Tsunamis' comeback in the last inning fell one run short, as the pitching duo of Finkel and Siegelman held the Tsunamis to five hits.
