Drowning Darryls Grab Dolphins by the Tail

in San Leandro Inner City Dual Meet

The San Leandro Drowning Darryls traveled across town this past Saturday for their annual intra-city dual meet against the Washington Manor Dolphins. The day began on an unusual note with the 8-under girls medley relay team losing its first race of the season. Although San Leandro also lost the following 8-under boys race, the Darryls recovered in time to take 15 out of the 18 remaining relays, as well as 33 out of 48 individual events, eventually posting a 615-388 victory.

Manor's 13-14 girls were particularly effective, sweeping all five individual events and one of the two relays, as did the Darryls' 15-18 girls. San Leandro's 13-14 boys, led by three-time individual winner Uriah Buscovich, did not lose an event all day. 8-year old Andrea Ward remained undefeated after 14 individual races this season, racking up three more victories.

Manor's Fanny Du narrowly won the 9-10 girls freestyle, ending Jeanette Lo's 10-race individual unbeaten streak. Lo came back to win her other two races, the backstroke and butterfly. 15-18 girls Jessica Bender and Nicole Yang traded off one-two finishes in their three individual events, with Yang taking the freestyle and Bender coming back to grab the breaststroke and individual medley.

Also winning individual races for San Leandro were Sean Correa (11-12 boys back), Alyssa Hopper (6-under girls free), Cole Jower (9-10 boys breast), and Benjamin Thvedt (15-18 boys back). The Darryls will put their 5-0 record on the line this Saturday morning, traveling to Treeview in Hayward.

9-10 girls: Jeanette Lo (2nd free, 1st back, 1st fly) 16 pts, Rebekah Swain-Sugarman (3rd back, 1st breast, 3rd fly) 12 pts; 9-10 boys_Robert Pardee (1st free, 1st back, 4th breast) 14 pts.

11-12 girls: Lisa Bender (3rd free, 1st breast, 1st IM) 15 pts, Amy McHale (1st free, 2nd IM) 10 pts; 11-12 boys_Eric Yang (2nd free, 1st breast, 1st IM) 16 pts, David Buscovich (1st free, 3rd back, 4th breast) 11 pts, William Hopper (2nd back, 2nd fly, 4th IM) 10 pts.

13-14 girls: Gina Zones (4th free, 2nd back, 2nd IM) 10 pts; 13-14 boys_Uriah Buscovich (1st free, 1st back, 1st fly) 18 pts, Bradley Kitts (1st breast, 2nd fly, 1st IM) 16 pts, Laurence Shaw (2nd free, 3rd fly, 2nd IM) 11 pts.
